Abstract

Hepatitis B is a disease caused by the HBV virus and is considered a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the hepatitis B vaccine in students and/or health professionals from the teaching institution of São José Do Rio Preto. Qualitative descriptive and exploratory study, involving 42 academics and/or health professionals, in which rapid tests for hepatitis B and questionnaires, were applied. Of all 42 participants, only 5 results were positive; 32 negative and 5 were invalid. A significant percentage of results suggestive of false negative, was obtained. Concluded additional studies are needed, which allow the confirmation of serum Anti – HbsAg conversion in individuals in individuals vaccinated against Hepatitis B using other material biological as serum.
